Bright New Ideas—Solar Lantern Project in Latin America

Major

Human Resources

Mentor

John Stavig: Marketing and Logistics Management

Brief Bio

I have a great passion for Latin America. I will be studying for the next school year in South America. I really enjoy music and the arts.

Future Plans

I would like to work internationally. Hopefully, work with a progressive minded company dealing with human resources.

Why Research?

It was part of a project I was already a part of. I heard about UROP, and we applied. By having the UROP we could have designated times to work on the project.

What Did I Get from Research?

I learned more about an area I had wanted to pursue. I got a resource with a faculty mentor. I had guidance from a professor, and actually got to do research.

How Did I Start?

I had heard about UROP at a preview meeting. We had already been in contact with our faculty mentor, and we asked him to come on board.

Advice for Another Student

Do not be afraid to do research. Look beyond what you would first expect. Really take your mentors advice and base your research on that.

Project Description

We were researching the solar possibility in Nicaragua. We wanted to bring solar lanterns to Nicaragua, and make this lighting source cheap and efficient for the people of Nicaragua.
