Brief Bio

Currently, I am in the process of applying to graduate school in order to obtain my Masters in Speech-Language Pathology. Also, I am teaching Spanish to children ages 3 through 10 at the Milwaukee Montessori School.

Future Plans

My career plan is to be Speech-Language Pathologist with a focus on child language disorders. I am also highly interested in working with bilingual populations.

Why Research?

I did research to gain insight in the field of Speech-Language Pathology. I find being involved very important. Not only did this opportunity provide me with a great experience, but it also allowed me to perform professional duties that I will likely be doing in the future.

What Did I Get from Research?

Being involved in the UROP provided me with an opportunity to grow in the research field. I have learned the importance of intervention and have also learned how to draft a technical manuscript describing a research study. The overall project allowed me to work closely with my mentor and one-on-one with a student in the school system.

How Did I Start?

I found my faculty mentor and research project through my department. I was able to join an existing project that my mentor was working on and so far, it has been wonderful.

My Advice for Another Student:

Definitely do it! This opportunity has been both a learning and a fun experience. Doing research is a way to become more familiar with what is happening in your field of study and it is also a great way to interact with faculty members and other peers.

Research Summary

My research project is located in an elementary school. Here I help with intervention procedures to teach requesting a break as a communicative alternative to challenging behavior. Data from each session is recorded and graphed. I have also been drafting a technical manuscript describing the study.
