Mentor

Brief Bio

Born and raised on a dairy farm in NE Wisconsin. Always had an interest in engineering and is why I am here.

Future Plans

Graduate School and then work.

Why Research?

II wanted to get more experience outside of the classroom.

What Did I Get from Research?

Not only have I acquired experience in fluid mechanics but I have made friendships with some extremely talented people who are more than happy to help me. I also acquired an awesome summer job because I’m now in charge.

How Did I Start?

I went around asking professors if they needed help and was willing to volunteer my time. I eventually did a UROP and am now paid full time.

My Advice for Another Student:

Doing research is a great way to gain experience in order to get an internship.

Research Summary

First off, a water channel is basically a wind tunnel but with water. I initially aided in the design of the contraction section (the section right before the test section) and am now in charge of its construction. The contraction section consists of some screens and other things which remove turbulent flow from the water right before it enters the test section. Being in charge in of this construction allows me to continuously problem solve as well apply engineering skills for there are all kinds of details that come up in the construction which needs to be dealt with.
