Characterization of Mechanical Properties of Soft Tissues In Terms of Microstructures

Ashley BartlettMajor

Biomedical Engineering

Mentors

Victor Barocas, Biomedical Engineering

Brief Bio

I enjoy karate and dance.

Future Plans

I want to go to Medical School.

Why Research?

It sounded like an interesting opportunity.

What Did I Get from Research?

I got a sense of applying what you learn in classes to the real world. I also got to learn things in a non-classroom based setting.

How Did I Start?

My faculty mentor mentioned it in his class, and then I followed up with him.

My Advice for Another Student:

Make sure you are interested in the project.

Research Summary

We were correlating the fiber alignment in tissues to the tissue's microscopic mechanical response. We would apply this information to artificial tissue, and it will allow other engineers to come up with better types of artificial tissue.
