Jay Bell: Soil, Water and Climate
I have graduated with honors from the College of Biological Sciences. I enjoy biking, making my own beer, and prairies.
I am an assistant scientist for Olson Associates.
It was a requirement for the honors program, and I wanted to develop some sort of project that was primarily field based. I did not want to work in someone’s lab for two semesters.
The best part of UROP is it gave me a good idea of what to expect from graduate school. It taught me how to handle a project by myself.
I had a class with my mentor.
Make a timetable. Part of the application is the timetable. Have a good idea of the research methods you are going to perform. Many times, I thought I could do these methods towards the end, and I did not prepare for climate variations. If you order something expect it to take a lot longer to come in the mail then you expect. Plan well.
