I like to play percussion in a jazz band. I have been on the IT deans list the last two years.
I am looking to get my PhD.
I wanted the experience, and I wanted to begin creating networks that would help me in my graduate level of study.
I got lab experience. I learned how to development a document for research that I am doing. The lab interaction is the best. Being able to work one on one with a faculty member is valuable experience as well.
I had contacted my fall semester faculty members that I knew were looking for a student to do research. They pointed me to UROP. Then I met with the professor, who I would be working with, to get a better idea of what I would be doing.
Try to get involved as early as possible. If you are looking at staying in academia or graduate school, it will help your career. It is a great undergraduate experience.
