I enjoy horseback riding and cooking.

Future Plans

I want to work as an engineer.

Why Research?

The topic interested me because I wanted to control pests without using pesticides.

What Did I Get from Research?

I learned about the research procedures. I got to work outside.

How Did I Start?

I had done research with the same faculty mentor previously.

My Advice for Another Student:

Do it. It is definitely a worthwhile experience in your undergraduate career.

Research Summary

Pests often eat soybeans, which are one of Minnesota’s major crops. However, when rye is near the soybeans, there are no pests. I wanted to see what part of rye was keeping the pests away from the soybeans. My research focused on finding the specific chemical that caused the pests not infest the soybeans.
