CALL FOR ABSTRACTS

2009 UNDERGRADUATE SYMPOSIUM

Wednesday, April 8, 2009, Coffman Memorial Union

All undergraduate students are invited to participate in the Undergraduate Symposium to be held on April 8. Whether you are finishing your project or are mid-way through, describing your research in the form of a poster presentation is a valuable learning experience. Presenters from past years have reported that the symposium provided a capstone experience and closure to their research projects. Students whose projects were in a more formative stage found that the symposium provided them with insights, ideas, and inspiration through discussions with the scientists, colleagues, and guests who stopped by to view their posters.

The Registration and Abstract Submission Deadline is Monday, March 16, 2009.

There are two steps:

1. Register here.

Submit Your Abstract:
• Download the Powerpoint template.
• Edit the template to include your information and abstract. Do NOT change the line that begins "Poster Number" If you wish to include a photo, paste the photo on top of the marked box on the template. If you do not wish to include a photo, remove the photo box and the text within it.
• You can see an example of a completed abstract here.
• If you have the required software and know how to do this, you should also make a pdf version of your abstract and submit both the Power point version and the pdf version (.ppt and .pdf files). You can see an example of a .pdf abstract here.

Please check to make sure that the dimensions of your abstract document are 8.5 inches wide by 5.5 inches high.

2. Submit abtract here.

Please make your abstract understandable on a basic level to a non-expert and avoid jargon, wherever possible. Abstracts should convey a sense of the bigger picture of research in your field, in addition to some detail on your contribution to a specific project. Please edit your work carefully for accuracy and check with your faculty mentor before submitting.

The symposium is open to all undergraduate students at the University of Minnesota. For more information, please contact munro001@umn.edu
