Note: as of September 1, 2014, all new UROP stipends will be paid as scholarships rather than as payroll. Please check with Financial Aid to determine if this will affect your aid package for the year. Those who started under the old system will remain under the old system.

Proposals for UROP projects for Spring 2016 will be due by 11:59 p.m. October 5, 2015. Only one application may be submitted in each funding round. Notification for projects occurs 6-8 weeks after the deadline. Links for submitting your application, proposal and for faculty mentors to submit their recommendation forms are on the Everything UROP page.
The University of Minnesota Informatics Institute (UMII) will provide funding for up to 25 UROP projects that include significant informatics components. Projects must either address a data challenge within a research problem in any field of application or address informatics methodologies or techniques more broadly. Applications are through the regular UROP process. Indicate on the application (Section D) whether your proposal should be considered for funding through UMII. For questions on what is appropriate research for these awards, please contact Claudia Neuhauser, Director, UMII.
A number of agencies and groups sponsor summer research experience programs for undergraduate students. Google searches will find websites for many of these programs. Many have deadlines in January or February. Some specific links include:
NCUR : NCUR 2016 will be in Asheville, North Carolina, April 7-9, 2016. The UROP Office will not be able to provide full funding to students and faculty/staff attending the conference in 2016. Some limited funding may be available to students who are accepted to present at the conference. Once you are accepted, please contact the UROP Coordinator for more information.
Winchell Undergraduate Research Symposium : undergraduates in the sciences (including the social sciences and engineering) can do a poster or oral presentation. April 29, 2016, University of Minnesota in partnership with the Undergraduate Research Symposium: abstract submission deadline will be announced.
UMD Showcase: an opportunity to do a poster or oral presentation on the Duluth campus. Dates are Tuesday, November 17, 2015 and Thursday, April 14, 2016.
The International UROP Scholarship is now available for Spring 2016 international research projects. The deadline is October 31, 2015. The Fall 2016 deadline will be May 1, 2016. This program is for students participating in select credit-bearing study abroad semester programs through the Learning Abroad Center. The Scholarship has been raised to $2500.
